Albion, Nebraska, is a shining example of a small town where community spirit fosters a thriving entrepreneurial environment. Their journey began in the 1990s with a legislative change, SB-840, that allowed Albion to collect a local 1% retail tax.  This funding helped them to invest more in local projects. This opened the door for a wave of improvements, with a significant surge in the last decade. One early sign of this entrepreneurial spirit was the 2002 renovation of the historic movie theater. This project, led by a dedicated team of teachers and students, ensured locals could enjoy current releases in a charming setting operated entirely by their high school students!

Albion's fundraising prowess also grew significantly. A turning point came in 2013 with the creation of the Boone County Big Give. This innovative event leverages matching funds to significantly boost the impact of every donation received.  This shows the important impact that a local Foundation can have on a community.  But the key to Albion's success lies in its people. As Jeff Jarecki, a local leader, explains: "New champions emerge with each project." This collaborative spirit creates a supportive environment where new businesses can flourish.
