The visioning process behind the renovation was community-driven, allowing local voices to influence the direction of the changes.  From the start, community leaders sought to harness the passion that people had for their town, involving them in decisions and ensuring that the revitalization would reflect the desires of the community.  After securing funding, the momentum continued to build as new businesses and opportunities emerged, including restaurants, retail shops, and residential developments.

Among the highlights of the downtown renewal is the arrival of a steakhouse, a bakery/deli, and newly constructed apartments, creating an attractive option for downtown living.  These new additions, alongside longstanding businesses, have created a dynamic mix that appeals to both locals and visitors.

Adding to the city’s charm are three newly installed water features, designed to enhance the beauty of the town square and surrounding areas.  These water features, along with the completion of a new town square and gathering space, have further solidified downtown Marion as a go-to destination for community events and social activities.  The city plans to host "3rd Friday" events, which will showcase local musicians, artists, and food trucks, transforming the square into a lively gathering place each month.

The focus on creating a pedestrian- and cycling-friendly environment is also key to Marion’s downtown strategy.  With wider sidewalks, dedicated bike paths, and carefully planned public spaces, the city aims to encourage foot traffic and outdoor activity, which will, in turn, support the new downtown businesses.
